Top 10 Harry Potter Wands

The wand chooses the wizard, and some wizards are luckier than others... Read on to discover the top 10 wands in the Wizarding World, based on aesthetics, core, and wood. Each wand is unique to the wizard, but which wand is acually unique? Spoiler alert: Harry Potter's didn't make the list...

10. Mad Eye Moody

Length: unknown

Core: unknown

Wood: unknown

With a lighter, round beginning leading to a rough body with two silver rings, Mad Eye Moody's wand scored and impressive tenth place out of a possible 70+ wands. The wand represents the roughness and complexity of the character well, and does not have a dull body like many other wands including Draco Malfoy's. Moody's wand could have scored a higher place on the list if it didn't look like it was made out of plastic, but of a material with more quality (in reality it is not made of cheap plastic, but visually it looks as if that is the case).

9. Cho Chang

Length: unknown

Core: unknown

Wood: unknown

Cho Chang's wand definitely looks more realistic than Moody's, with a smooth swivel for a handle continuing into a relatively long wand with rough texture. In reality, the wand is more of a dark brown rather than a hazel color, but is still aesthetically pleasing. Cho's wand is elegant but has a personality, much like Cho herself.

8. Horace Slughorn

Length: ten and a quarter inches

Core: dragon heartstring

Wood: cedarwood

In the whole Noble Collection there is no wand that resembles Slughorn's the slightest. Starting with a silvery handle shaped like a slug (name reference), the wand stretches out into a black body with whitish streaks coming from the handle. Compared to other wands, it is one of the shorter ones in the collection (the average being about 12 inches), however, the fact that the wand contains dragon heartstring which is the most powerful known core definitely makes up for it. One flaw in the wand that denied it a higher place on the list is that even though it is supposedly made of cedarwood, it is black.

7. Nymphadora Tonk

Length: unknown

Core: unknown

Wood: unknown

At a respectable 7th place, Nymphadora Tonks's wand is one of the lightest ones in the collection. Starting out wider at the handle, the wand narrows out the longer it stretches, and the alternating yellow and light brown rings on the wand's body add to the visual aspect of the wand tremendously. It would be safe to assume the core of the wand is a Pheonix feather, considering the owner's unique personality.

6. Peter Pettigrew

Length: nine and a quarter inches

Core: dragon heartstring

Wood: chestnut

Another example of how the wand and the wizard connect, as being one of the most spineless characters in the Harry Potter series, Peter received a wand with many curves. The wand starts off with a loop that resembles the shell of a snail and is the only part of the whole wand that is not smooth. Surprisingly enough, the wand contains dragon heartstring, a very powerful core for a not so powerful wizard.

5. Viktor Krum

Length: ten and a quarter inches

Core: dragon heartstring

Wood: hornbeam wood

Viktor Krum's wand was one of the last ones sold by Mykew Gregorovitch, Ollivanders number one competitor. The wand's handle resembles a bird which is symbolic, as Viktor Krum flies while playing quidditch all the time.

4. Fred Weasley

Length: unknown

Core: unknown

Wood: unknown

The first Weasley we see on the list, Fred's wand surely earned it's spot. The body of the wand is a smooth brown, but what is truly unique in the wand is it's handle that resembles a pine cone. Sadly, the wood can not be pine considering that wands made of pine wood choose owners destined to live long lives, something that Fred did not achieve. Please take a moment of silence to commemorate the memory of Fred Weasley.

3. George Weasley

Length: unknown

Core: unknown

Wood: unknown

The Weasley twins are always together and so are their wands, taking the fourth and third places on the list. Although it is not visible in the picture, the wand's handle is 'fitted' for a hand, with a slight curve where you are supposed to hold it. Another differentiating factor in the third best wand of the Harry Potter collection is that it has sort of a 'transition point' between the handle and the body. The overall colors include brown, light brown, dark brown, and red.

2. Hermione Granger

Length: ten and three quarters inches

Core: dragon heartstring

Wood: vine

It's fair to say there is no wand like Hermione's just like there is no witch that comes close to her. Hermione's wand is made of vine wood, and all across it you can see vines stretching from the handle upwards. This wand is one of the most powerful ones in the collection, surpassed only by the Elder wand.

1. The Elder Wand

Length: fifteen inches

Core: Thestral tail-hair

Wood: elder wood

It's probably not a surprise that the Elder wand is first place on the list. Not only is it the most powerful wand of all time, owned by famous wizards such as Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, and Gellert Grindelwald, but it is also very aesthetically pleasing. The last owner of the wand, Harry Potter, broke it in half after fixing his original wand.
